IOT4WIN: Internet of Things for Smart Water Innovative Networks

Internet of Things for Smart Water Innovative Networks (IoT4Win)is a Horizon2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action- Innovative Training Networks (ITN) 2017, European Industrial doctorate project under H2020 excellent science. BCU will coordinate IoT4Win and work with project partners in the consortium, including ICT / IoT technology company from Romania and Greece and water innovation company from Spain and an utility in UK.

Ensuring the sustainability, security and resilience of water supplies in the face of climate change is a global challenge which demands increasingly intelligent approaches to the management and transport of finite water resources. The design and operation of smart water networks creates a currently unmet demand for highly-skilled and multi-disciplinary engineers and scientists who apply advanced sensors; ICT, the Internet of Things (IoT) to enable smarter water networks in an increasingly complex regulated environment.

The research project IoT4Win focus on advanced sensors and IoT technology for water and environment monitoring and control. IoT4Win will exploit the synergies between smart sensor, ICT; intelligent data processing; water distribution system knowledge and social sciences through multilateral relationships between academia; technology providers and water suppliers in the public and private sector.IoT4Win will provide researchers with the complementary skill-set necessary to become the future’s leading experts in IoT enabled SWN technologies.

European research project to use smart technology to tackle global water issues

Birmingham City University and Greek technology firm Singular Logic have been handed €761,644 (£ 665,966) by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Networks scheme.

Wenyan Wu, Professor in Advanced System Engineering at Birmingham City University lead investigator on IoT4Win, said: "With the rise in smart technology we now have a real opportunity to rethink how we view some everyday problems, and can gain a level of insight into issues of water we would never have been able to get before".
